Seth Thomas Pocket Watch Model 20
0-SIZE MODEL No. 20
Seth Thomas 0-size Model 20 is represented in the Ehrhardt American Numbered Drawings as EA 823 and can be identified through the use of the drawing below:
The 0-size Model 20 was the only 0-size model that Seth Thomas manufactured, and it was produced in a very limited quantity; but filled the bill in demonstrating the Seth Thomas commitment to diversity and beauty in their product lines. The 0-size Model 20 joined the 18-size Model 2 and 6-size Model 14 in having a split 3/4 top plate. While its underlying orientation is hunting cased it is not unusual to see 0-size conversion dials used to case the movements as open-face without a seconds bit.

At the time of its purchase, Model 20 movement #2003756 had serious water damage and a broken center wheel staff. In the process of exploring this damage it was recognized that the pillar plate has a different shape in the area of the winding pinion than other Model 20 movements. In earlier numbered movements the winding pinion was visible through a squared off opening in the pillar plate. The pillar plate on movement #2003756, does not have that squared off opening and the winding pinion is not visible. See photographs below to compare the pillar plates of Model 20 movements to determine approximately when this design change was made by the Seth Thomas factory.
