Seth Thomas Pocket Watch Model 14
Seth Thomas Model 14 is represented in the Ehrhardt American Numbered Drawings as EA 818 and can be identified through the use of the drawing below:
Model 14 was the first 6-size model that Seth Thomas produced, the second model to be manufactured with a divided plate movement, and the only 6-size model to be manufactured with a divided plate, with the exception of four-hundred Model 17 movements. Model 14 pre-dated the Eagle Series 6-size models, and was initially manufactured with a male winding stem instead of the female winding port found on all other stem wound Seth Thomas pocket watches. The 1904 Seth Thomas Materials Catalog tells us that “… when this model was changed to female wind…” “… they are designated as 2nd style and commenced at about No. 116801”. A quick scan of the Model 14 Photo Album shows that the transition to female wind actually occurred over a very wide range of serial numbers. Model 14 movements were manufactured with a gilt finish or a nickel finish.
