Pocket Watch Database

Information from Wholesale, Retail, and Manufacturer’s Catalogs

The importance of making historical background information freely available to all who have an interest in the roots of the American clock and watch industry cannot be overstated. Information that is not freely shared not only confounds the research of present-day horologists but will likely become information that is forever lost to future generations of horologists.

The Pocket Watch Database, serving as a collective repository for the studies and research of many, is playing the greatest role in collecting, organizing, consolidating, and freely disseminating invaluable information to the horological community and the public at large. The Pocket Watch Database has quickly become the gold-standard worldwide for fast, reliable horological information.

In addition to respect and admiration for the amazing resource that they represent to the entire horological community; I bear great personal admiration and deep gratitude to the Pocket Watch Database and its founder Nathan Moore for providing the support and encouragement that I needed in 2022 and 2023 as a new collector of Seth Thomas pocket watches to direct my enthusiasm for the hobby into productive research and writing efforts that ultimately led to my publication of this website. I have found it a daunting task to develop an architecture and content base to support the fruits of my research into only one specific manufacturer of mechanical pocket watches. I cannot imagine the degree of effort, sacrifice, and personal resources that it must have required, and continues to require, to develop and maintain the world’s premier website for encyclopedic information on every American brand of pocket watch ever manufactured, the Pocket Watch Database.

An important way that you can help move this research forward is to submit photographs of your Seth Thomas pocket watches to the Pocket Watch Database.  Accounts are free at the Pocket Watch Database, and it is a highly trusted resource worldwide. Once you have submitted your photographs and descriptive information; they will always be available for you to see, and to edit, as you see fit.  Other people around the world will be able to enjoy viewing your photographs and learning from your participation. As a daily visitor to the Pocket Watch Database I have found it very useful to upgrade my membership to a low-cost paid account ($19 for six months) as this eliminates all of the distracting advertisements and creates a much more enjoyable user experience.

There is a link to the Seth Thomas section of the Pocket Watch Database in the upper right-hand corner of every page of this website.

Thank you, Nathan Moore!!
