This 1895 Seth Thomas 18-size open-face Model 5 Maiden Lane Factory Grade with 21 jewels is adjusted to five positions.  Its serial number is 208824. Maiden Lane was the highest factory named grade to be manufactured by Seth Thomas. Movements in the Maiden Lane factory named grade were manufactured with 17, 21, 24, or 25 jewels, and they were adjusted to either five or six positions. When the movement pictured above was manufactured, it was not yet Seth Thomas’ standard convention to mark jewel counts, or positions of adjustment on their movements.  They had just begun to mark an abbreviated jewel count with the number and the letter “J” on some of their movements and later transitioned to marking the jewel count followed by the word “Jewels”.

The movement shown above presents with an 18-size Seth Thomas #1228 double-sunk Roman dial with a ring minute track and red five-minute marginals, fitted with Seth Thomas #1284 blued fleur-de-lis hands 18-size. This was the standard compliment of dial and hands for movements in the Maiden Lane factory named grade.

The movement is cased in an 18-size Keystone Watch Case Company open-face 20-years 14k gold-filled J. Boss Crown Scales watch case with screw back and bezel, serial number 2754533.
