F. L. Grace & Co. - Stillwater, Minn. is a private label in Seth Thomas 18-size Model 2.

Franklin (Frank) L. Grace, born in September 1861 in Pennsylvania was a jeweler for the F. L. Grace & Co. at 216 South Main Street in Stillwater Minnesota from the 1880’s until 1903. He lived with his wife, Augusta and son George, at 808 South Second Street in Stillwater within the Stillwater Bazar department store. The Bazar included four departments, a dry goods department owned by L. L. Nelson, a jewelry department owned by F. L. Grace & Co, a crockery and notions department owned by J. S. Schlitinger, and a shoe department owned by E. L. Chase.

Frank Grace’s wife, Augusta, may have been related to the proprietor of the Stillwater Bazar’s Crockery and Notions department. Her maiden surname closely resembles the name printed in the newspaper account, although the apparent relationship and the accuracy of the newspaper spelling have not been confirmed.

On April 26, 1903, an early morning fire in the Stillwater Bazar heavily damaged F. L. Grace & Co. beyond the point where it could continue to do business.

In 1904 Frank Grace and his family relocated to St. Paul Minnesota where he was a jeweler with A. I. Shapira & Bro.

Frederick G. B. Weihe died on December 27, 1937, at 78 years of age. The postcard photographs below show Main Street in Stillwater Minnesota at the turn of the 20th century.
